Earlier in the year as I visited 8th grade geometry classes I was reminded that our students are never too old to “play” and learn from math manipulatives! I watched as students used reflection tools, tracing paper and rods to compare angles, analyze reflections, and find different ways to answer the same questions. Students may not need these tools or may need them for only some problems, but simply having them available as a tool choice can remove barriers for students who may previously been struggling.
